In accordance with the policy adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact info a domain is registered with must be valid and up to date all the time. What’s more, this information is openly accessible on WHOIS lookup websites and while this may not be a problem for corporations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, since everyone can see their names and their personal email and home addresses, particularly in an age when identity theft isn’t that infrequent. That is why domain registrars have come up with a service that conceals the details of their clients without editing them. The service is referred to as ID Protection, Privacy Protection or WHOIS Protection. If it is activated, people will view the details of the registrar company, not the domain owner’s, if they make a WHOIS search. The ID Protection service is supported by all generic TLD extensions, but it’s still not possible to hide your private information with certain country-code extensions.

ID Protection in Shared Hosting

If you get a shared hosting package from our company, you will be able to enable ID Protection for any of your domain names if their extensions support this option. You can register/transfer a domain name and enable ID Protection during the registration procedure or you can enable the service for any of your domain names at any moment later through the Hepsia Control Panel. The process is surprisingly easy – once you log in, you will have to go to the Registered Domains section where you will find a list of all the domains that you’ve registered with us. For each of them you’ll notice an “ID Protect” symbol, which will let you know whether the service is active or not. By clicking on it, you can either ID-protect the domain, or you can disable the service if it is currently active.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you’ve got a semi-dedicated server account with us and you register a domain under it, you can enable our ID Protection service effortlessly. This requires only a few clicks in the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, through which you manage everything associated with your semi-dedicated account. This is the place where you can see all your active domain names and for each of them you’ll see an “ID Protect” symbol, using which you can activate, renew or remove the ID Protection service. Of course, this can be done only with generic and country-code domain name extensions that are ID Protection-eligible and you will be able to see this beforehand, so you will not end up buying a service that we cannot provide.
